Comforting Keto Egg Drop Soup
The first time I was introduced to Egg Drop Soup was when I was in my early 20’s and a friend worked at a high end Vancouver restaurant.
They made it for me and I couldn’t believe how easy and simple it was. Broth, eggs, lots of pepper and a sprinkle of green on top for visual appeal.
To this day I still make it when I have a cold or feel like just having a fast and hot bowl of keto compliant soup.
Why is Keto Egg Drop Soup so good for low carb dieters?
- It is budget friendly and easy to make
- No special tools or ingredients
- Egg Drop soup is a perfect meal to have if suffering Keto flu symptoms or any type of cold and flu symptoms
- It’s a 5 minute keto compliant meal
- You can easily make an keto egg fast soup version (be sure to watch the video)
What Ingredients will you need for Egg Drop soup?
- Eggs
- for regular keto you can use broth (the restaurant used beef broth but you can certainly use chicken)
- Egg fasters will use water instead of broth
- Butter (optional for the non egg fasters but adds a nice creaminess to the broth)
- spices such as onion and garlic powder (optional)
- salt and pepper
- garnish (optional)
You will also need:
- A pot
- Whisk or fork
- A bowl to eat it up in!
Tips and Tricks to make Keto Egg Drop Soup
- To avoid a ‘scrambled eggs in liquid’ soup, keep whisking the eggs while you slowly pour into the boiling water or broth (see video)
- The end result should be feathery strands of egg not big lumps.
- If you are doing the keto Egg Fast just use water but put in the suggested spices and lots of salt!

It is also called Egg Flower Soup
Thank you for your comment! I love the name Egg Flower Soup!
I am not fond of egg drop soup or any broths but really love hot and sour soup. I am wondering if I could add a little soy sauce, vinegar and sweetener to up the flavor, without getting too far “out of bounds” for doing the egg fast. Maybe a little sesame oil, also??
Thanks in advance for your reply ;-D
On the egg fast you can use condiments sparingly so I’m thinking you could play with those items and see how it goes!
Thank you so much for your kind reply! I was hoping it might be ok to try that. I don’t know for sure when I’ll do that, but I’ll let you know if/when/how it goes LOL.
Maybe YOU could try it, too?!
THANKS for all the info and wonderful recipes!
Next time I have egg drop I will try that! Thanks for the idea!
I honestly didn’t have high hopes for this, but it was surprisingly delicious. In my opinion it just tastes like a broth. I’ve never had egg drop soup before this, so I’m not sure if that’s the usual. Overall this recipe is great for an egg fast, and I’m really happy I found it.
I love that because the very first time it was suggested to me to try at a restaurant I was absolutely convinced it couldn’t possibly be good! And here we are! Glad you were brave!
